Transitional Wet Room with Freestanding Bath

This customer came to us wanting to update and refresh their bathroom as they were transforming their beautiful character cottage into their forever home. They wanted a space that both of them could enjoy, featuring both a bath and shower but wanted to alter the layout slightly to make the space feel more welcoming and luxurious.

When working with an older building, ceiling heights and the shapes of room can often be tricky to work with, however we found solutions which also tied in beautifully with existing elements such as the ceiling beams and doors which allowed the new space to fit perfectly amongst the character and style but added that hotel feeling.

Design features:

The ceiling height in this space was lower than average, it included beams and also sloped ever so slightly. In order to reposition the shower to allow the entry to the space to feel more open, bespoke screens were manufactured which allowed them to sit perfectly beneath the beams. We also minimised the height and opened up the space further by introducing a wet room shower area which blends beautifully into the floor and is camouflaged by the porcelain wood effect tiles, giving that lovely streamline feel.

A transitional design is one which unites old features which new design, and there are many ways to create this harmonious combination. Matt black brassware is a beautiful statement and while its design may be more modern, its finish and feel is soft and classic. This finish is found throughout the space, the vanity handles and legs, the shower, and the bath waste and overflow too. Not only does this dark tone tie in with the darker tones in the wooden elements but also incorporates a sense of warmth.

A freestanding bath adds a statement to any bathroom and when placed at an angle and paired with a free standing bath/shower mixer it makes creative use of the available space and allows each area to be more accessible.

Whilst some aspects are quite contemporary, the radiator and WC were kept more traditional. A chunky radiator is a lovely way to inject character and it sits perfectly under the window. The WC is kept classic with its handle flush and shape and by boxing the pipework in, allows it to stay minimal and easy to clean.
