Identifying your hot water system

This is a very useful tool when it comes to choosing new products for your bathroom or wet room. You may need an additional pump for your shower for example if your system is gravity fed. It can also dictate the tap you need to install as different taps operate at a minimum or maximum bar pressure. Combination System

With a combi boiler you will have no tanks or cylinder in the loft. Your water is heated instantly rather than being heated and then stored in a cylinder. This is a mains pressure system.

Gravity System

A gravity system uses the force of gravity to circulate water in the hot water system meaning you would usually have a cold water tank in your loft space and a cylinder to heat your hot water on the first floor.

Unvented System

An unvented system is a mains pressure system and you don’t usually have tanks in the loft. Instead you have a cylinder that heats your hot water directly by immersion heaters or indirectly by a boiler.
